acoustic pipe
2013
mixed media
W 3000 mm × L 1600 mm × H 800 mm
This installation uses the “howling” phenomenon known as microphone feedback.
The feedback is generated inside each of eight pipes of which each length differs. The sound heard from each pipe differs depending on the acoustic characteristic of each pipe. These pipes are a kind of instrument for playing music, and they play a composition through a computer programme.
In this work, the artist created a device to play a specific composition which can physically amplify, develop, and construct the sound that occurs by shaping the acoustic environment. It is based on the concept of "the consciousness of a sound source exists in our unconsciousness". This piece is an attempt to expand our consciousness of human perception through this work.
